ABOUT THE TEACHER
Kevin Sells has performed with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, Lubbock Civic Orchestra, Lubbock’s Moonlight Summer Musicals and Rockwall’s Community Theater. He was a member of the Texas Tech Graduate Brass Quintet; SMOS Brass that traveled and performed around the West Texas region. Kevin is currently working to obtain a Master's in trumpet performance at Boston Conservatory at Berklee where he studies under Thomas Siders. Prior to Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Kevin received his Bachelors in trumpet performance at Texas Tech University, where he studied under Allen Vizzutti and Will Strieder, and jazz studies with Ben Haugland and Stephen Jones.
In addition to performing, Kevin Sells is an active teacher. He started teaching during his undergraduate degree where he taught many middle school and high school students. Kevin was often approached by his college peers for help in their playing and in their music classes. Once moving to Boston he began teaching at the GoGo Allegro School of Music in Boston where he made the shift to virtual teaching. Recently his students at the GoGo Allegro School has received honors for their work and fast progress.
As a teacher the most important thing to Kevin Sells is to set students up with correct technique and fundamentals so that they can be successful at any level or style of trumpet playing. Having studied classical music and jazz with some of the best performers and teachers in the world Kevin has discovered that with proper fundamentals the student can be well rounded in any style that they enjoy.
